Proposed HB 543 to Rate Parents

This bill would require that school districts inform parents of its expectations regarding parental responsiveness to teacher requests for communication, such as accurate contact, emergency and medical information and oversight of their child’s school attendance, completion of homework and preparation for tests. They can use existing guides or checklists or new formats to communicate but would require parents to acknowledge, in writing, the receipt of that information.

Newt Gingrich

Tangerine Blog personally can’t stand the thought of polarizing force Newt Gingrich as president but the news is the news. He’s coming to Mount Dora Thursday.

Hooked on Growth

This link was passed on the me via Facebook by some of my “Yes on 4″ buddies. Check it out. The film was made by a group called Growthbusters. I believe the film was released in Canada but not in the United States yet. Comments about the film “This could be the most important film [...]

Is Earl K Wood’s Job Redundant?

In this age of computerized systems, do we really need someone to attend retirement parties and employee picnics which seem to be his primary duties? It’s time for the Charter Review Commission to eliminate this job entirely. [They did not do so previously as the savings to taxpayers would be "too small."]

Scott’s not sweating the “pension tax” lawsuit

A total of 556,296 public workers, including teachers, is suing the state of Florida saying that the new required pension contribution without a pay raise is really a pay cut for hundreds of thousands of state, county and city employees. Florida educators are suing the state on behalf of all public employees in the state retirement system.

Rick Scott hits a new low

Florida Governor Rick Scott has come up with a novel way to reverse his negative ratings with the public. Instead of meeting with newspaper editorial boards, he’s asking his supporters to write postive letters to the editor about his work for taxpayers. Printed below is a copy of the e-mail he sent out to his supporters. As one might expect, it’s full of lies and misleading statements. But could we expect otherwise?

Wisely, Shelly Septic to Have Public Hearing

The Long and Scott Farms BCC hearing was rescheduled to July 26, 2011 at 9 am.

Send Commissioner Brummer a Message!

You previously stated that there would be no impact to us if this was allowed. We strongly disagree. There are smells and true environmental issues that will effect residents in Orange County with the end result being the further decline in our property values and resale ability.

There are no limits or true controls on the amount or type of waste that this facility will be allowed to take in. There has to be a better idea for developing this property. As the elected official for District 2, we need you to speak on our behalf and represent our concerns.

Is it Smelly with Shelley?

The sewage sludge/wood chip mix has a very strong and unpleasant odor, as many of you know from trips down Jones Avenue. This material will be transported without pathogen reduction, which means it will be teaming with bacteria and viruses that will drip along the roadway and enter the environment. The material will be managed by modified static pile for an unspecified amount of time as bacterial activity reduces the sewage and wood chip mix into a product that is suitable for use on agricultural fields. This is a very SMELLY process.

Bryan Nelson to Visit Tangerine

State Representative Bryan Nelson {District 13} will visit Tangerine to discuss the 2011 Legislative Session. He will be at the next Tangerine Improvement meeting on June 20th at 6:30 pm. Mr. Nelson’s office apparently doesn’t know that the TIS building is in Tangerine. His mailer indicates it’s in Mount Dora. No wonder so many with a Mount Dora zip code {to get home mail delivery} think they live in Mount Dora. Even the State Representative can’t get it straight!
